Developed by Jan McCleskey, MA, OTR from The Fine Motor Store/The Handwriting Clinic. Tongs activities can be a great activity to decrease a whole handed approach to fine motor skills, and to develop separation of the two sides of the hand. Children need to progress to using the radial side of their hand to hold pencils, scissors, tongs, and other tools (think buttoning, fork, etc). Using a tripod grasp with tongs is a great activity.
Materials needed: VERY ECONOMICAL
Pencil boxes - clear ones are in the product description and can be ordered in bulk (set of 10) for a very economical cost.
Tweezers or tongs - my favorite ones are "bamboo tongs" - and can be ordered on Amazon for $1 - 2 dollars if ordering several at a time.
Print printable in file, cut and laminate. (black and white files are included if you do not have access to a color printer - you would have to color your own)
Centimeter cubes - available from EAI education. These cubes come in 8 different colors in a set of 1000 for around $8.00.
This pencil box set includes activity cards to make 16* pencil box activities. . Students will use counting skills to complete the cards.
