Look at Tom
Important parts of early childhood education are the development of fine motor skills and the recognition of printed text. With this in mind we have selected a generic type of printing text rather than one of the many types of cursive scripts. This will help children with printed text recognition while giving them lots of fine motor practice.
This is the first of seven simple little two-sentence books where Kindy Kids meet Tom the Cat and read about the things he can do.
In the books that follow, Tom will return as also will his friends: Spud the Dog and Tig Pig. the children can read about the things they can do and where they are.
This book contains eight pages of exercises and an illustrated Wordbank: The Wordbank supplies the children with the core sight words along with some commonly used words introduced on the exercise sheets.
A second Wordbank is included in color in case you want to make a wall chart. As the clip art is in vector format this can be enlarged without loss of definition.
Each page has two sentences of reading text and one word from the text repeated a number of times in large format. The words are “hollow” so the children can practice their writing by filling them in.
Children who are adept at the formal writing task can use the back of the sheet for writing the key word without the aid of the “hollow” words. This back page could also be used to further development of fine motor skills by having the children draw a similar illustration to the one on the front page.
The six other Kindy Readers will be offered at $2.50 each or the whole six as a bundle for $12.
