PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This assignment should serve as a summative after having taught the comma and quotation rules for dialogue and quotes. For bell-work, have your students list the rules for commas and quotation—this will serve as a review prior to the following activity. For further engagement, show students a clip of Abbot and Costello’s “Who’s on First?” that you can find on youtube.com. In supplementation, there is remake of “Who’s on First?” by Jimmy Fallon that can also be found on youtube.com. Advise students that they will be creating their own version. Of course you should model a teacher example. This is a collaborative activity, so each student should have a different color pen (this is for individual accountability) and be responsible for writing for one of the characters. This works as a peer editing assignment too since the students are responsible for correct punctuation. Enrichment can be done by allowing students to add a third character. As a closure, have students perform their dialogue in front of the class. A rubric to assess the students is included at the bottom.
