Product Description
What do students DO with “Finish the Pictures for Emergent Readers?”

Students use crayons to complete each picture after reading the sentence or phrase in each box. The comprehension skill order scaffolds from very basic color and numeral reading, to complete sentence reading. Students utilize context clues in the sentences and picture clues in the pictures to which they are to add details. There are at least two worksheets at each progressive level for a total of 19.

Why do my emergent readers NEED “Finish the Pictures for Emergent Readers?”

These pages are terrific for checking comprehension at emergent reading levels (especially when you are required to determine some sort of grade or comprehension indicator.) By using context clues to decode unknown words, and giving differentiated, yet, meaningful seatwork experiences to primary learners, emerging levels of comprehension can be assessed. The use of number words, color words, early sight words, and context clues based on each picture can help you elicit good assessments for “what is still needed” or “where to go next.” Watch for creativity and different interpretations. These are even fun (well, usually) to check.

Who can USE “Finish the Pictures for Emergent Readers?”

These pages were originally designed for struggling first grade readers later in the year; but, they also work well with kindergarteners, regular first graders, and any other emergent readers needing fun and meaningful seatwork to demonstrate their reading comprehension. These could, also, be used with students with autism or developmental disabilities.
