Number Comparison 10 Games/Activities, 8 Worksheets, & 3 Spinners

All of these activities can be played in a small group or individually.

1. Fire!

This game can be played several different ways.

•Number Recognition

Spin the 0 – 9 spinner, Name the number spun and clip it with a clothespin or large paper clip. It can be covered with a unifix cube or some other marker instead. The first child to clip all their numbers wins.

•Less Than

Spin the 1 – 10 spinner. Clip a number that is less than the number spun. The first child to clip all their numbers wins.

•Before

Spin the 1 – 10 spinner. Clip a number that comes before the number spun. The first child to clip all their numbers wins.

•One Less

Spin the 1 – 10 spinner. Clip a number that is 1 less than the number spun. The first child to clip all their numbers wins.

•Count

Make a set using stackers or unifix cubes on top of each number.

•Count

Make a set using stackers or unifix cubes on top of each number.

3. Fire - Spin, Read, Write

Children will spin a 1 – 10 spinner. They will find the word that names the number spun, read it, and write the numeral above the number. The first child to write the numeral above each word wins. This can also be an individual activity.

4. Boots! (1 more or What comes after?)

Spin a 0 – 9 spinner. Find the number spun on a boot. Write the number that shows 1 more on the boot. If you are using after, write the number that comes after. The first child to write a number on each boot wins. This can also be an individual activity.

5. Fire Station (1 Less or What comes before?)

Spin a 1 – 10 spinner. Find the number spun on the firetruck. Write the number that shows 1 less on the firetruck. If you are using before, write the number that comes before. The first child to write a number on each firetruck wins. This can also be an individual activity.

6. Greater Than Less Than Sort

There are 3 different sorting mats that you can chose from. Chose which number cards to use. (0 – 20)

•Children will sort the firetruck number cards by greater than and less than 5.

•Children will sort the firetruck number cards by greater than and less than 10.

•There is a sorting mat for you to write a number for the children to sort by.

7. Put it Out!

Spin a 1 – 10 spinner, If the number spun is greater than 5, color the flame with the number on it red. If the number spun is less than 5 color the flame orange. This sheet can be used without a spinner too.

8. Climb!

Roll a dot or number die. Trace a number that is on the ladder above the number rolled. If a 6 is rolled, roll again. If you are using this as a game, if you roll a 6, you miss a turn.

9. One More

Spin the 0 – 9 spinner. Write the number spun on the line below the ten frame. Draw that many dots in the ten frame. Draw a set with 1 more dot than the 1st ten frame on the 2nd ten frame. Write how many on the line below.

10. Two More

Spin the 0 – 8 spinner. Write the number spun on the line below the ten frame. Draw that many dots in the ten frame. Draw a set with 2 more dots than the 1st ten frame on the 2nd ten frame. Write how many on the line below. You can also place a piece of Post-It cover up tape or a sticky dot on the number 9 on a 0 – 9 spinner, instead of using the provided spinner.

1. Climb Up!

Circle the numbers on each ladder that are greater than the top number. X the numbers that are fewer than.

2. Fire!

Color the window with the number that is greater yellow. X the number that is fewer than. Color both windows orange if the numbers are equal.

3. Fire Up!

Compare the 2 numbers on the firehouse. Color the number that is greater red. Color the number that is fewer brown.

4. Sequence!

Look at the numbers on the flame. Sequence the numbers from smallest to largest by writing them on the hats below.

5. Order!

Look at the numbers on the hose. Sequence the numbers from smallest to largest by writing them on the flames below.

6. Fire! Fire!

Color the numbers that are fewer than the number in the window of the firetruck. Be sure to have the children look at the number on the wheels and the 6 on every firetruck.

7. One More

The children will count the sets and write the number that tells how many under ‘Begin With’. They will then draw 1 more, count the new set, and write how many under ‘1 More is’. If they can’t draw the object, have them draw a circle.

8. Two More

The children will count the sets and write the number that tells how many under ‘Begin With’. They will then draw 2 more, count the new set, and write how many under ‘2 More is’. If they can’t draw the object, have them draw a circle.
