The circle maps in this pack were used as an activity prior to and during a field trip. The day before the trip, I draw the predictions on the the blank circle map as the students generate them. I use our ELMO so that the class can see while I am drawing. Then I make copies and attach a page or strip of small stickers to the circle maps for the students to mark off items as they see them on the trip. (In the past, I required each child to carry a crayon or pencil, but these get lost too easily.) I included a circle map with real photographs of the predictions for your use if you do not want to draw the predictions!
When I taught 1st, I found the need to challenge my students a little more on our field trip scavenger hunt and included a basic part of speech review. I followed the same procedure of writing in the predictions as my students generated examples of the different parts of speech that we might see on our trip.
Both students and chaperones alike loved this activity. It gave the students purpose while we were on the trip and gave all participants something to focus on. All papers were handed in to the teacher before the students were dismissed for the day.
