FireStarters: English/Language Arts
WRITING-FOCUSED LEARNER IMPROVEMENT SYSTEM
Includes: 240 Ways to Begin Each Classroom Experience!
What are FireStarters? FireStarters are writing prompts given at the beginning of every class period. Learners respond to the prompts, then participate in a brief, directed, and respectful sharing-and-discussion review of that day’s prompt. In short, the FireStarters methodology is a writing-focused learner improvement system based on the foundational principle of respect (for oneself, for one another, and for the learning environment). The system allows learners to become more proficient writers through constant repetition (writing every day), while providing them with a variety of topics to keep their critical and creative juices flowing (without the “skill-and-drill” mentality that learners truly despise).
The FireStarters methodology is devised so learners enter your classroom with a clear understanding of the immediate behaviors expected of them – which creates a more learning-centric environment overall. Additionally, the methodology includes specific techniques to use in creating the most open and respectful environment possible during the review portion of the activity, which leads to a more respectful classroom on the whole.
Use this easy-to-learn, easy-to-use, easy-to-grade system to help your learners become more efficient and better writers, and to improve the ease with which your classroom runs overall!
