Variation 1 – Spatial Concepts – Print one copy of page 3 for each student. Laminate and cut out. Print 2-3 copies of pages 4-5 – laminate and cut out. Print 1 copy of pages 6-8 for spatial concepts. Give each student a “jar” page. Show the student a spatial concept card. Student needs to respond by using a complete sentence to describe the position of the firefly. After they have responded correctly, they receive a firefly card – with 1, 2, or 3 fireflies on the card. On some cards, they lose 1, 2, or 3 fireflies. The fireflies are placed on their jar for collecting. The student with the most fireflies at the end of the game or time, is the winner.
Variation 2 – As above, you will need copies of page 3 for each student and copies of the fireflies on pages 4-5. Using your own skill cards, students respond to appropriate cards/questions the number of times you require to receive a firefly card. Play passes to next player. The spatial cards will not necessarily be needed for this open-ended activity. The student with the most fireflies at the end of the game or time, is the winner.
