After reading the book Fireflies, by Julie Brinckloe, feel free to use these followup writing activities! This file contains three different worksheets.
The first worksheet is designed to be used as a whole group activity. As you read aloud the book, students notice descriptive sentences that the author used, and they record them on their worksheet.
The second worksheet is designed to be used as an independent writing activity to practice revising dull sentences. Students are given four "basic" sentences along with a brief scenario, and they are asked to revise the sentence so that it's more descriptive.
The final paper in this packet is lined writing paper. Since most students have their OWN experience capturing fireflies, you can give your students an opportunity to tell their own firefly story using this writing paper.
