Interactive, realistic first aid lab which teaches students how to respond to a common injury in a partnership.
Prerequisites to this lab - Before completing the lab, you should have already covered the basics of first aid, including:
Heart rate and BPM
Proper glove removal
First aid treatment for a cut
You will also need to provide a baggie of items per 2 students to complete this lab. The baggie should contain:
2 gauze pads
2 sterile wipes
As the teacher, you will monitor that students are completing the lab correctly. In this lab, students will be pretending to treat a "cut" on a classmate. To simulate blood in a student-friendly way, I use glitter glue. When a student comes up to me to get their "injury", I place a small line of glitter glue on their forearm. Their partner then treats this as a cut for the purposes of this lab.
*This lab may not be appropriate for all student populations. Students need to show responsible behavior in order to complete this lab effectively.
