The first day of school it is exciting, exhausting, or even excruciating for some.
At the end of the first day I like to end with a quick reflection. This helps the students reflect on what we did so they can remember a few things to share at home.
Use after reading a story like Wemberly Worried or First Day Jitters
More importantly, it helps me learn who may be experiencing some stress or concern about a new classroom, a classmate, a new teacher, friends, or a new school.
You can keep these for your own records, or return them the next day with encouraging notes. Students will love that you took a few moments to write to them and it will help build that connection we all hope to develop with our students.
As a bonus, it can also serve as a quick assessment of handwriting and writing skills.
This can also be used at the end of the first week.
