This is a simple activity for students just entering your classroom on the very first day of school! Every student needs to feel safe and comfortable in their classroom. If you are a teacher that has a classroom library with lots of posters on your walls and resources for students, this is a great activity for students to become acclimated with the classroom climate. Students learn how to make inferences the very first day! Cut out each of the cards and hand one to each student at the door. Instructions are stated on the cards. Students will enter your classroom and simply walk around your classroom and check out your organization as well as different posters, novels, boards and displays that make up your classroom. Students will list simple statements of facts or observations. Then they must make inferences about your personality, organization and expectations as their Language Arts Teacher. This is a great starter activity as students enter the classroom and a jumpstart activity to your initial introduction as the students' classroom teacher! (While the cards make specific preference to an ELA classroom, this can be used for any classroom teacher).
