A great icebreaker for the first day of school with so many possibilities and benefits.
Children think of things they like and write them on the appropriate line. I had so much fun with my fifth graders doing this. Before they knew it, they were sharing ideas, laughing with each other and the first day jitters just melted away.
In the process, I learned a lot about them and we created their first piece of poetry. When kids start thinking of multiple words with the same letter, Voila! We have an alliteration poem!
One year I had students bring in as many items as they could hold from their list, and we took a photo to hang with their poem. Awesome for beginning of the year bulletin board and open house!
