Teaching ELA in a Title 1 inner city school comes with many challenges, such as attempting to close an achievement gap within 9th grade students whose reading levels range from 1st to 12th grade, or differentiating so that special education students, ESL students, and gifted students in the same class are engaged in the same material.
This introductory pack consists of a Syllabus to my 9th Grade ELA Curriculum and the 1st Lesson Plan of the Year, which includes a jigsaw of the syllabus, a technology-use contract, and a parent/student contract.
The syllabus, a roadmap to the curriculum and designed with all students in mind, sets attainable expectations through rigorous work at each student's level. Students are re/introduced to fair class rules, routines, expectations, and level of accountability.
Features: Introduction to 21st century skills: technology, CCLS, collaborative learning: small group discussions, problem/solving, group roles
