You know that first day of school students are going to be shuffling into your drama classroom with a variety of emotions. Some will be excited for this elective! Some will be very nervous about it. Some will be dreading that their counselor made them take this class. And you have to try to handle them all on the first day!
With this 55 minute presentation and activity, you will put some of their fears to rest about drama, get them excited about what your class will hold, make them see why studying drama can help them in the “real world,” give them keys to success in your classroom, and take them through a simple low-risk activity to make them start to feel comfortable.
Included is a multimedia presentation that you can edit and personalize to your own personal classroom while giving you some parameters for how to set the tone on the first day. Also included are two activities. One of the activities requires the use of a costume closet with many hats. Therefore, an alternative activity is included if you do not have that resource. (Or simply bank the other activity for a later date!) Also included are a worksheet for one activity and a teacher’s guide with all the prompts you will need to run the activity.
I work primarily out of Google Docs, but I do provide Microsoft Word/PowerPoint document and .pdf files.
In this bundle you will find:
* A Read Me .pdf (1 page)
* A PowerPoint and Google Slides link to Welcome to Drama Presentation (10 slides)
* A .pdf, Word Doc, and Google Doc link of The Hat Game Activity Worksheet (1 page)
* A .pdf of The Teacher’s Guide to the Categories Activity (2 pages)
For you, the busy drama teacher, all you have to do is print and teach! Everything is now prepped for you! Have fun and enjoy the first day of school with your students! Break a leg!
