Avoid the near silence that greets your secondary classroom at the beginning of the year - get kids up and out of their seats, sharing details about their personalities from the first day.
This is a quick and easy to use - print, copy, handout and go - game that will help you and your kids get to know each other right away.
Students answer a series of questions silently, then move around the room looking for their classmates that have answers that match their own. When your winners are chosen (who gets five matches in a row first?), you and your students can share your answers to find out even more about each other.
The questions are a mix of serious and silly (Which is better, McDonald's fries or Wendy's fries? What living person would you like to talk to most?) to reveal sides of everyone's personalities that don't normally come out on the first day.
This can fill 15 minutes or 30, depending on how many winners you choose, how long you allow them to answer questions, how long or brief your post-game discussion is, etc. It's entirely up to you.
