Using stations on the first day of school sets the tone for the year. Show students that they will be engaged in hands-on learning and collaborating with classmates in your classroom. These stations, some group tasks and some independent tasks, can be completed in a single class period or used throughout the first week of school depending on the number of stations you choose to include, the length of your class periods, and the length of time you want to give students to work at each station.

These stations can be used in any subject and most grade levels (fifth and up), and can also be used as individual activities rather than stations. All of the directions and activities can be edited to fit the needs of your classroom. There are 10 different options for hands-on (printable) station activities and 7 different options for digital station activities. You can pick and choose which you’d like to use and/or use a combination of the two.

Station options:

*Syllabus scavenger hunt

*Goal setting activity

*Read dating/previewing literature circle choices

*Describing the perfect school, classroom, teacher, student

*Classmate quiz

*Distribution of classroom supplies/first homework assignment

*Getting to know you as a reader
