Here is a power point you can use on the first day of school to welcome your fifth graders to class. Each slide has a "Creative 5" clip art image. Pause and discuss the way each artists adds creativity to the 5. Each one is unique and different. Some are abstract in design while others are very concrete images. Use these slides to remind students we are all different and have different styles, talents, and will display those differently this year. However, we are all fifth graders and have the potential to be creative and unique. Use each student's design to create a Class Quilt....
Okay, I'm no seamstress...I totally gave the kids cardstock to paint their Creative 5 and bought a piece of fabric that I hot glued ribbon border around to make "squares." Then I took each design and gently hot glued the card stock squares into the fabric/ribbon squares of the "quilt." I added ribbon loops (again, hot glued) along the top and ran a dowel rod through the loops. I bought those 3M Hooks and displayed in the hallway outside our door all year.
If you can sew...go for it ! Tweak the last slide to match your own creative talents and gifts!
Have a wonderful year in Grade 5!
