An easy way to get students writing creatively and speaking on the first day of school. This will certainly get all of your students feeling comfortable in the classroom, allowing you to get to know them better and faster. The activity begins with students writing stories that border the line of possibility or lying. As the students each share their stories, they keep a list of who they think is lying and who is telling the truth. You will definitely get to know your students quickly as most of their stories are based in some truth. The activity rounds out with a class discussion about what makes a good story (a great jumping off point for the school year).
