This fun game is perfect for the first day of Spanish One or Spanish Two. For Spanish One it helps gauge how many Spanish words and phrases students know starting the school year. For Spanish Two it's a confidence builder as they review the most basic words and phrases.
Students get in pairs and get one page of scrambled words to share. Each of the students has a different color highlighter marker or simply a different color pen. I then call out the word in English and students look for the word in Spanish. The first student that marks the word -by highlighting, circling, crossing-out, etc. gets a point. Each pair of students keeps up with their points. After calling out the majority (or all) of the words I get the names of the winners of the game. I usually give a couple of points on an upcoming vocabulary quiz or candy to the winners. Half the class gets a prize. It's friendly competition and really helps with Spanish vocabulary.
