This lesson, presented in Powerpoint format so that can be projected to students on a Smartboard, is an excellent activity for a high school English or Creative Writing classroom, especially on the first day of spring (or towards the beginning of it).
The aim of the lesson is to use the topic of spring as a springboard into a reflective memoir/personal essay.
This lesson is aligned to Common Core Standards. The lesson, which can be used as is by teachers or modified to fit their purposes, consists of an Aim, Do Now, Brainstorming Period, a Writing Prompt Period, an Exit Question, and a Homework assignment-- all of which are aligned to the lesson's Aim. I have also included the amount of time that each portion of the lesson should take, which would aid in a teacher's pacing of the lesson (which is part of the engagement component on the Danielson rubric). There are also frequent checks for understanding built into the plan itself.
