Fractions can be difficult for students to grasp so this first lesson is simple, visual, and basic. My thought is that students should feel comfortable with the basics before they advance to the bigger concepts of fractions. You can advance or review as you see fit for your students’ level of skills or age. I also would only go to number 10 with your whole number with beginners. There are eight activities to help students learn.
