In short, students read the story "Mrs. Wishy Washy" together and then receive a letter from Mrs. Wishy Washy requesting their help with a mathematical challenge. The lesson plan is aligned with Common Core standards, explicitly addresses the acquisition of academic language, and includes both a student workmat template and a rubric to evaluate the degree to which students meet lesson's objectives (benchmarks).
