***This file is available in Homework Menus: First Grade. If you are looking for an even more deeply embedded system for sight word acquisition please check that unit out. Along with 1 full year of print and go monthly homework menus you will get these assessments, blank/editable PDF menus, and blank/editable PDF calendars.
This file contains: a parent letter explaining the significance of sight words, 9 pre and post assessments appropriate for first grade literacy, and challenge words for students who successfully complete their pre-assessment.
The pre-assessments include a note for parents about the purpose of the assessment and how they can use the results at home to help their student master the task.
These assessments cover the first 340 Fry words. 65% of every newspaper article, textbook, children’s story, and novel is composed of the first 300 Fry words. Using this assessment system you will cover 340 of those words. Students who work into the challenge words will cover up to 500 Fry words. If your students are able to read these words without hesitation, they are well on their way to becoming fluent readers.
