I'm excited to implement the newly-adopted Benchmark ELA curriculum in my first-grade classroom, but I noticed that the spelling tests are designed so that students are expected to write whole sentences from dictation - while only the target words are scored. The objective is to use the spelling words in context, which is great; but from experience I feel that would be unnecessarily frustrating and time-consuming for many students! So I've created this tool with simple sentences already written out; the teacher dictates whole sentences, but students fill in only the target words. Two sets of sentences are included, so one can be used as a pre-test, and there are also pages with the spelling words at the top, which can be used for independent/collaborative practice or homework. Copy one-sided and cut in half.
This is just the first one; I haven't written the rest yet. Please let me know if you like it!
