These Common Core Standards posters for first grade are unique because the illustrations are cute but not babyish - just right for the age range of students in 1st grade classrooms. I chose clip art that interests 1st grade boys and girls, but doesn't infantilize or make them look silly. You'll find a large variety of artistic styles to keep these posters looking fresh and interesting year after year.
In addition to all the illustrated standards posters, there are THIRTY(!) themes to choose from so you can hang these posters in a way that matches your classroom theme or color scheme. The themes include title sheets that say "Common Core Standards," "Math Standard" and "ELA Standard." In the downloaded product, you will find themes for apples, owls, bees, rock stars, outer space, beach, monsters, ladybugs, detectives, Western, squirrels, pirates, polka dots, stars, and a variety of scrapbook letttering styles.
Everything in this bundle can be printed on Letter size (8.5" x 11") paper. No complicated cutting is required. To save paper, there are two posters on each page. You just have to cut one time down the middle of the page to separate the posters.
These common core posters can be printed, laminated, cut, and used for years and years! Buy once, use forever!
About the art used in the posters
There is a TON of clip art in these posters. Some of it I made myself. Most comes from many different clip art and stock art collections. All
of the art used in the posters has been used according to the terms set by its creators. No art has been used without permission.
Why is a high school teacher making posters for first grade ELA and math?
For the last ten years, I have been teaching ELA and art at Title I schools in California. During that time, I've also taught ELA and reading intervention to middle school students. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for six years as a graphic artist in San Francisco. I started making posters for the Common Core in 2011 as a favor for my daughter's godmother, who teaches fifth grade. The posters were a hit! Teachers of other grades asked if I would make posters for their grade level and I was happy to oblige. As time went on, it became a hobby and labor of love. I've made a lot of revisions to the posters along the way, always trying to make them as good as possible. I really get a kick out of making an illustration that explains and clarifies the standard. I love mining the internet and clip art collections for art that will appeal to elementary school kids. I've had a lot of fun making these posters through the years. I hope you like 'em!
