This comprehensive math curriculum includes everything you need to teach a year of first grade math. It includes 10 units - both the workbooks and hands-on, printable centers - to teach the concepts and standards.
The lessons introduce different ways of thinking and representing math concepts in a fun, interactive way.
Each unit has five pages of lesson ideas featuring guided group discussion questions, partner work, white board or math journal activities, as well as a list of printable centers and wide selection of workbook pages.
First Grade Interactive Math provides a comprehensive math curriculum with a hands-on approach. It combines familiar, repetitive formats with new concepts that makes teaching easier because students have familiarity with task and lower anxiety (or "math anxiety). This means that you will spend less time explaining what to do on practice pages, and more time on exploring new concepts. It also allows you to swap out new center tasks for students to recognize immediately and know what to do.
Each unit is packed with materials for differentiated instruction. Many of the printables from the workbooks come in two or three levels of difficulty to help you meet the needs of all learners without overwhelming students working at a lower level.
The curriculum aligns to many U.S. Common Core standards and also covers concepts from Canadian curriculum (keeping in mind that these differ from state to state or province to province). **Extra pages for CANADIAN CONTENT are included**

FORMAT and SPECIAL FEATURES
This curriculum is organized into ten interactive, differentiated math units covering topics taught in first grade.
These units contain MORE than a year’s worth of activities. You can pick and choose what works for each of your students working at different levels.
Each of the 10 UNITS include:
TEACHING GUIDE PAGES
Teachers are provided with a detailed list of ideas and activity for each unit, including examples for clarity. Each unit has five pages of lesson ideas featuring guided group discussion questions, partner work, white board or math journal activities, as well as a list of printable centers and wide selection of workbook pages.
Each unit provides a wide range of printable pages to create your own workbook. This flexibility allows you to adapt your workbooks to your area’s curriculum, as well as the differing needs of your students. These no-prep printable workbooks will allow you to complement your lessons with activities that are engaging and unique. Concepts are introduced in a simple way, and then become more complex as the unit progresses. Many of the page formats are repeated throughout the 10 units where appropriate, so you won't have to reteach the directions again. Also included are cut/sort pages for interactive learning.
HANDS ON MATH CENTERS
Each unit includes 5-10 printable math centres. There is a mixture of familiar repeated activities with new focus, and new activities to keep things engaging for students. Tasks include: sorting, matching question and answer, multiple choice, true/false, write and wipe with dry erase markers.
MATH REFERENCE POSTERS
Each unit includes several reference posters. This includes reference poster for math facts, visual reference for terms or shapes, as well as posters that explain math rules visually. These are perfect for setting up a “math corner” where students can “be the teacher” by reviewing all the concepts taught to date.
There are two pages/versions of assessment pages to use at the end of each unit. You can use the different versions with students sitting near each other to ensure that you have authentic assessment. The pages are similar in format and difficulty, but use different numbers.
Many of the printable pages have differentiated versions of the same page (see letters A, B or C in the top left corners) which will allow you to meet the needs of students working at different levels in your classroom. They can also be used to introduce a concept the first day, then revisit the next day with slightly more expectation. In this way, you can choose workbook pages that are perfect for your needs. I often teach split grade classes, and this approach has helped to streamline my math instruction.
Many of the pages are self-checking. This means that the answers are located at the bottom of the page, or around the frame, or students are matching questions and answers by color. This alerts students to their own mistakes, and encourages problem-solving if they don't see their answer on the page. This also saves the teacher so much time, as students have basically marked their own work rather than handing it in to you with careless errors.
PEER CHECKING FORMATS
Many pages have a spot at the bottom where a peer has checked over their work and signed their name. Students enjoy this chance to "be the teacher", and it also holds students accountable for their work because they know it will be peer checked before they are done. Another wonderful aspect of this feature is the organic discussions that occur during the peer checking process; students are prompted for deeper discussion of the concept and peer-teaching is common.
