One of the greatest factors influencing a child's fluency is their instant recognition of high frequency words. The high frequency word table in this resource can be used throughout the year to check for a child's ability to quickly read the sight words from each unit. The list can also be sent home so parents are aware of the high frequency words the child needs to know by the end of the year. The space in front of the word can be used for tallies each time the child reads the word correctly. I use a pencil to mark the paper. When a child can correctly read a word five days in a row, I put a smiley in the box. If a word is missed, I erase the tallies and we start our consecutive day tally count over again. When all the words in a unit are passed off, I time the child periodically on those unit words to maintain automaticity. I have included black line masters as well as color coded to match the colored tabs in the teacher edition for each lesson.
