The purpose of the writer’s notebooks is to improve student performance in writing, as well as for parents to become an active part of their child’s writing. Becoming a strong writer is not an easy task and it requires a lot of practice. It is important for students to have ample opportunities to write in order to become more skilled writers. The writer’s notebook allows for students to plan, practice, edit, and be creative in their writing. Furthermore, it provides a time of reflection for your child and a way to see how they write first hand.
There are 30 weeks worth of Common Core aligned writing prompts. These are the perfect addition to make journals for each of you students to use during literacy block or Daily 5 or to send home for homework.
There are 10 narrative prompts, 10 information/explanatory prompts, and 10 opinion/persuasive prompts. I have also included the end of year expectations for each type of writing, as well as language standards. I include them in each of the journals.
