This resource is for your first grade students (or low 2nd graders) and is full of activities for whole and/or small group instruction and for your centers!

Pocket Chart Word and Picture Cards
Students use the words and pictures to form sentences in your pocket chart then students write their sentences on the
Pocket Chart Sentence-Making Response Sheet
Syllable Sorting Cards and Syllable Mats
- Sort by placing cards on to the correct mat and then write the words on the
- Place the picture/word cards in ABC Order and then use the ABC Order Worksheet
to write words in ABC order with letter boxes as prompts
Picture/Word Match Vocabulary Words
Match pictures to written words and then use the Picture/Word Match Vocabulary Worksheet
– Draw a line from the word to the correct picture
- Match shape pictures to written words
-Match color pictures to written words
Write correct color/shape word using a word bank and letter boxes for clues
Scrambled Words Center Mats
-Use plastic letters to form the scrambled words or laminate/use page protectors and allow students to write with washable markers
Scrambled Words Worksheet
-Use word bank to help write the scrambled words
Small Group & Center Activity – Place picture cards next to correct beginning sound
Initial Letters/Sounds Worksheet
- Write correct beginning sound for each word.
Five scrambled sentences for the students to place in the correct order and then write on the response sheet. Words are all the sight words and vocabulary the students have been using in all the activities in the packet.
