**1st Grade Math Unit 8: Subtraction Part 2 **is the *eighth *unit of my first grade math boom card series. There are twelve units in all and each unit is packed with nine games that were made to engage young learners. 1st Grade Math Unit 8 Subtraction Part 2: In this unit, students will subtract single digit numbers and multiples of 10 from numbers between 20 to 90. This unit is packed with nine games that were made to engage young learners. This unit was made with first grade in mind, but you can adapt it to your lessons to review the skills with second graders and to challenge high level kindergarteners. This unit covers the following first grade Common Core standards:

**1.OA.1 **Use subtraction to solve word problems.

**1.OA.3 **Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. *Commutative property of addition and associative property of addition*

**1.OA.4 **Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem.

**1.OA.5 **Relate counting to addition and subtraction

**1.OA.6 **Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten; decomposing a number leading to a; using the relationship between addition and subtraction; and creating equivalent but easier or known sums

**1.OA.7 **Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false.

**1.OA.8 **Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers.

**1.NBT.6 **Subtract multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range

10-90.

- Subtract numbers 1 to 10 from numbers less than or equal to 20.

- Students will subtract numbers between 1 to 10 from numbers less than or equal to 20 to complete the number bond and find the unknown numbers in the equations.

- Students will read the rule in the table and subtract a single digit number from numbers between 10 to 40.

- Students will complete the fact family house by applying properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. Students will practice adding and subtracting numbers between 1 to 40.

- Determine the unknown whole number in a subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. Students will practice subtracting a single digit number from numbers between 10 to 50.

- Students will decide whether a plus or a minus symbol is needed to complete the equation. Students will practice subtracting multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range 10-90. Students will also practice adding two numbers that are multiples of 10.

- Students will practice subtracting single digit numbers from numbers between 20-100 and subtracting multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range 10-90.

- Use subtraction to solve word problems. Students will subtract single digit numbers from numbers less than 80.

- Students will practice subtracting single digit numbers from numbers between 20-100 and subtracting multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 from multiples of 10 in the range 10-90.
