Get your students excited about making personal narrative (sometimes called "small moments") books! This personal narrative writing unit includes everything you'll need: writing lessons, writing rubrics, printable writing paper, posters and visuals, graphic organizers for planning and more.

This 5 week unit is best taught toward the beginning or middle of the year, but it can be used anytime you want to teach students how to write personal narratives.

In this first grade writing unit, students will learn how to:

- Plan and write a personal narrative on a single, focused topic

- Create a strong beginning and ending

- Add details to their writing to show what characters did, felt, and said

- Use temporal words to show the order of events and passage of time

- Correctly use writing conventions (spaces, capital letters, periods, spelling)
