Get students excited about writing letters to share their opinions! This persuasive letter writing unit for first grade includes everything you need: writing lessons, writing rubrics, printable writing paper, posters and visuals, graphic organizers for planning, and more.

This 4-week unit first teaches students the basics of letter writing. Students begin by writing persuasive letters to friends to convince them to try out their favorite activities. Then, students write persuasive letters to solve problems and inspire change in their classroom, school, or home.

This unit is designed to be taught toward the middle or end of the year.

In this first grade writing unit, students will learn how to:

- Plan and write persuasive letters to share their opinions

- Support an opinion with two or more reasons and supporting details

- Write introductory and concluding sentences

- Use adjectives and transition words in their writing

- Write in complete sentences and combine sentences

- Revise and edit independently and with a partner

This unit includes:
