Use this smartboard file to teach your students about hearing beginning and ending sounds in words. Start with the concept that words all have a beginning and ending sound. Progress to identifying what sounds they hear in single syllable words. Each picture includes elkonin boxes so students can tap out the sounds they hear in the words. Finish the lesson by trying to match the ending sound of one word to the beginning sound of another.
I teach this lesson in first grade in late-September/early-October, but it is a concept late kindergarten could also grasp.
