Use this smartboard file to teach your students about rhyming words. Start with the concept that rhyming words have parts that sound the same. Progress to identifying what parts of words sound the same. Each picture includes elkonin boxes so students can tap out the sounds they hear in the words. Finish the lesson with asking students for their own examples.
I teach this lesson in Kindergarten and as back to school review in September in First Grade. I use this file over multiple days. When I first introduce the concept I only focus on listening for the sound. In the next lesson I use the same file and write the words to help students make the connection that rhyming words sound the same AND are spelled the same (most of the time!).
Don't forget to stop over at my store and use the "Making Rhymes" worksheet to go with this lesson!
