This is a one week unit on finding the main idea of a story and answering questions about key details in the story. The unit utilizes several books about the four seasons. This unit is designed to be used at the beginning of the first grade school year. The teacher assists students in reading the text and questions as necessary. One challenge activity is provided for children who demonstrate mastery of the skill.
The first activity for How is the Weather Today is designed to be done in partnerships. Each pair receives a copy of the main idea questions. The questions for this book are designed to be cut apart and placed in a jar for pairs to pull out and answer. Pairs will pull out as many questions as they can get to. They must finish one question before they pull another.
