Based on the Reading Workshop Model, this 1st Grade Reading Curriculum explores both fiction and nonfiction texts to teach students how to use word solving, fluency, and comprehension strategies to become strategic, confident, engaged readers. Teachers will focus on the reading process to prepare children to read increasingly complex texts all while working on story elements and the skills that are foundational to comprehension.
Each of the 7 units are divided by weeks and quarters. They include specific instructions for daily mini-lessons that are facilitated through whole group instruction. The lessons can then be used in small group and individual instruction to reinforce skills. PLEASE NOTE: Although aligned to the new Missouri Learning Standards, a link is provided to align each standard to Common Core.
