The focus of these sheets is the Responding section of the new Core Arts Standards put out by NAfME. It also touches on a few of the Common Core ELA standards for first grade as well.
This packet contains 12 first grade appropriate sheets that can be used with your teaching, as a substitute activity, and as assessment. The first part of the file explains the various activities and how they can be used in your teaching and why they were created to work towards these standards. When appropriate, suggestions for songs are also included to help you use them more effectively. This is an awesome resource to get you started using more writing in music class! Sheets include:
Music Mood (an introduction to mood in music: happy/sad)
Tempo (an introduction to tempo: fast/slow)
Dynamics (an introduction to dynamics: loud/soft)
A Survey of What You Like (an opportunity for the students to evaluate themselves as a listener)
This Song Is… (a generic song sheet for students to listen to a song and evaluate it)
Songs With Voices (a generic song sheet for evaluating a song that has singing)
Songs With Just Instruments (a generic song sheet for evaluating a song that only has instruments)
The Picture in My Head (Having students draw what they think is happening in the song)
The Same Song? (having students compare two of the same song by different groups or artists)
When Do You Hear… (talking about when and where we hear music)
Be a Critic (both a vocal and instrumental sheet that can be a springboard for creating a paragraph review of a song)
I hope you enjoy creating responsive listeners with your little ones!!
