Skilled readers recognize patterns in words rather than sound words out letter by letter. Readers can use word chunks to decode words by using what they know about one word to decode another. Recognizing word chunks helps students become more skilled at decoding so that they will eventually be able to decode longer words. This little pack is a "Scoot" game for the ar/or sounds. Just print, laminate, and sprinkle cards around students' desks. Each child walks with a recording sheet and writes the word of the picture shown on each card. Blanks for missing sounds/letters require students to think about each sound before writing. This pack has many uses...Scoot, literacy centers, RTI, or guided reading!
