Classroom Implementation Ideas & Tips

This Student Project Booklet may be used a number of ways in your classroom. Students may work independently or together in pairs or as a small group to complete the booklet.

The booklet contains ample room for student responses and an additional blank page is included for your prolific writers who like to add lots of details.

For your slower paced learners, there are many pictures and diagrams so students can demonstrate their understanding. You may need to scribe for these students.

How It Works

The booklet is designed to meet a variety of curriculum standards and it is very easy to differentiate for a variety of learners.

Many of the pages involve hands-on experiments that take little preparation on the part of the teacher. Some experiments may be conducted by the teacher in front of the class with students as participants and/or observers. For other activities, teachers may want to put students into pairs or small groups so that they actively engage in the inquiry process.

For slower paced learners or students on modified programs allow students to work in pairs and draw pictures.

For enhanced programs and gifted learners or for those students who require an extra challenge, the latter pages in the booklet will encourage students to expand their understanding of the concepts and further describe their findings.

Common Core State Standards ELA & Science
When completing the booklet, students will meet the following CCSS.ELA: Reading Standards for Informational Texts 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.6, 1.7, and 1.10 and Writing Standards 1.2, 1.3, 1.7, and 1.8.

Evaluation Rubric and Additional Ideas for Evaluation

An Evaluation Rubric is included for the booklet. You may also like to have your students make an oral presentation to the class about their favorite experiment. This is a nice way to end the unit and it allows students to share their knowledge and become a subject matter experts. Oral presentations also allow students to learn from each other.
