Give students a fun way to practice word problems with this pizza math packet. The packet includes 2 activities -- task cards that can be used as a center, whole group, or small group activity, and a set of math journal prompts to practice problem solving independently.
The task cards all use the same menu for Al’s Pizza. They are divided into 3 levels:
Mushroom: Adding 3 Numbers (Easy -- Medium)
Green Pepper: Simple Addition & Subtraction
(Easy – 2 numbers, simple problem structures)
Red Pepper: Harder Addition & Subtraction
(Hard – 2 numbers, more difficult problem structure)
Olive: Critical Thinking
(Hardest – variety of problem structures)
Although these problems involve money, students do not need to know anything about currency. All problems are in equal dollar amounts and rely on addition & subtraction skills within 20.
Each task card set has 12 cards with a small picture for organization and easy differentiation.
There is a specific recording sheet for the mushroom set, and two options that can be used with any other set (one has more space for showing work).
Students can cut and paste these problems into their math journals. They are divided into three sections.
Problems 1-5: Missing Part
Students can use addition or subtraction to solve for an unknown addend.
Problems 6-10: Change Unknown
Students will determine whether to add or subtract and solve for the change.
Problems 10-15: Compare, Difference Unknown
Students will determine how many more or fewer
