This yearlong bundle of narrative, opinion, and informational writing lessons for first grade makes it easy to plan your writing instruction! Also included are posters, visuals, assessment instructions, language arts/grammar practice, and writing rubrics to save you time.

Teaching first graders how to write well is a big challenge. Kids often start the year all over the map, and some are mostly still drawing.

You want your students to become stronger writers AND enjoy writing, but maybe you're not sure where to start.

Or maybe you DO know where to start, but planning engaging, developmentally-appropriate lessons is taking up a ton of your time!

Maybe you have a writing program at your school, but it's too difficult for your students....or not engaging enough...or it just takes forever to read through.

I can relate to this - and that's why I ended up creating my own writing lessons for my first grade students. I wanted to challenge them, but also make writing fun and appropriate for their levels!

Today, over 4,000 teachers have used these same writing lessons with their first grade students. They use them either as a standalone curriculum or to supplement their schools' existing writing program.

    This curriculum will help you:

    - Get your students producing lots of writing!

    - Establish writing workshop procedures that increase students' independence

    - Engage students in meaningful, enjoyable writing activities

    - Challenge students as writers, while still honoring their developmental needs

    - Significantly cut down on your planning and prep time

    Here’s what the curriculum includes:

    - 8 units that teach writing workshop routines and procedures, personal narratives, how-to books, opinion writing, fairy tale and realistic fiction, nonfiction/informational books, persuasive letters, and poetry

    - 156 complete, detailed minilessons with objectives, Common Core standards, materials, and procedures listed (great for subs or maternity leave)

    - Daily language arts/grammar exercises that complement the minilessons

    - Posters, visual aids, graphic organizers, an alphabet chart, a writing stages display, and other printable materials (all color materials also have black and white versions)

    - An assessment schedule that assesses students’ writing at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year (with comprehensive narrative, information, and opinion writing rubrics)

    - Additional student- and parent-friendly rubrics

    - Organizational materials for you (anecdotal note form, conferring schedule, and checklists)
