Three documents are included in this scaffolded DBQ skill builder. This is ideal for use with students early in the year to begin mastering the reading and writing components of the DBQ. Documents include Ben Franklin talking about George Whitfield. A second source includes a farmer sharing his experience hearing Whitfield preach. A final source discusses the effect Whitfield has on the New England Churches.
This modified DBQ asks students to summarize the documents and fosters thinking and analysis surrounding sourcing of documents. Discussion questions for small group or whole class discussion at the end will help students think more deeply about the motivations of the writers and the era in which they live.
