Since 1989, the United States of America has had five presidents, and their wives, the First Ladies, have served alongside them, advocating for causes near to their hearts. Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump have championed causes from literacy and education to health and wellness.
This unit study gives a brief overview of the modern role of First Lady, and provides a brief biography of each woman along with reflection questions. In addition, it prompts students to put themselves in the position of spouse of the President, and consider what causes they would promote and how through various writing activities.
