This unit is written to meet the needs of Social Studies teachers for the following questions from the Alberta Grade 7 curriculum:
7.1.3a: What were the different ways in which Aboriginal societies were structured?
7.1.3b: How did the structures of Aboriginal societies affect decision making in each society?
In addition to meeting the outcomes of the Alberta curriculum, this unit also satisfies the requirements for First Nations outcomes for Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia Social Studies curricula.
I have written this unit in the manner in which I taught it. Teaching suggestions are included for the first two sections. I reproduced the information pages as booklets for the students to read and complete the activities. Questions are included on each section as well as a project for a final assessment. Answers are included where applicable.
