Product Description
This First Nations and Europeans in New France and Early Canada Part 3 : New France (FRENCH VERSION) resource helps support students as they continue learning about this time period in Canadian history. While Part 1 of this unit focused on the First Nations groups themselves and Part 2 involved learning about the explorers and early contact between Europeans and First Nations groups, Part 3 concentrates on the social, political, economic and religious aspects of the colony of New France. (Part 4 focuses on the relationships between the English, French and First Nations during the early fur trading years.) Please note that while teacher lesson plans are in English, all student text is provided in French. (You will find that the cost of this resource is slightly higher than that cost of the English version in order to cover the cost of translation.)

Students are introduced to three essential questions early in this unit, and each student will choose one question on which to focus his or her learning. To show what they have learned, students will choose from a set of Challenge Investigations to find those activities which speak best to their strengths.

Topics covered include:
• Daily Life in New France
• The Seigneurial System
• Political Leadership
• Religion in New France
• Trouble in the Colony
• Royal Government of New France
• New France Timeline - 1600 – 1703

While this unit has been created to support the inquiry-based Grade 5 First Nations and Europeans in New France and Early Canada strand from the 2013 Ontario Ministry of Education Social Studies Curriculum, it is recognized that many Grade 5 classes may not have sufficient age-appropriate print resources for student use. This product includes a Teacher Resources section containing background information for the teacher that may also be used as grade-appropriate supplementary information for the students themselves.

PLEASE NOTE:As of July 26, 2016 all 5 parts of this social studies strand are available both separately and together as a discounted bundle. Check out the bundle here: First Nations and Europeans in New France & Early Canada FRENCH BUNDLE
