Product Description
First Nations and Europeans in New France FRENCH VERSION - The Great Fur Fair of 1682 is an engaging role play activity ideal at the end of a unit for helping students synthesize their background knowledge about the interactions between these groups in the late 17th century. This particular version of the resource is intended for use in French Immersion classrooms, with translations done by a teacher whose first language is French. Lesson plans and student examples are in English, while all students texts are in French! (Please note that this FI version of the resource is slightly higher than the English version due to the cost of translation services.)

Each student is assigned a character that may have been present at the annual fur trading fair held in Montreal in 1682, and given a brief background history of his/her character. Students use the information sheets included in this resource to help them understand what a fur fair entailed, and decide what other characters they will meet at the fair would be most important for their characters to interact with. A recording sheet is included for students to record their role play plan as well as write a short reflection about what happened during the "fair". An assessment rubric (in French) is included as well.

This product includes:
- teacher's notes
- a two-page student information sheet
- student recording sheet
- 34 Character Descriptions
- Assessment Rubric

This unit has been created to help meet the 2013 Ontario Ministry of Education Social Studies Curriculum for Grade 5.
