This is a first running record for 8th grade. There are three parts to this running record. The first part is taking the fluency of the student by recording their reading fluency. The second is taking their comprehension by asking questions about the story after they read it to see what they remember and can synthesize from the story. The third is the rubric to assess the comprehension.
I used an Aesop's fable because it was easy to read, but at an 8th grade reading level for comprehension. The answer sheet already has the correct answers, along with four vocabulary words. I decided to use four vocabulary words because of their importance in comprehension.

The running record can be filled out by hand and then saved on the computer for reference.

I developed this because I found there weren't any reading comprehension tools for assessing my 8th graders reading comprehension.
The sample is a blank record.
