This document requires students to first read and analyze the allegory "The Terrible Things". (We read this together as a class.) There are questions that ask about author's purpose, symbolism, and comprehension. After the students analyze this text, they make a connection to the poem "First They Came for the Jews" in paragraph form. (We had read this poem the day before, or you could do it after "The Terrible Things" if you choose.) The two text have many similarities for the students to comment on and include in their response.
