** Updated 7/29/13 so that the journal works for any start day
Writing can be a struggle for our little ones at the beginning of the school year. This is a fun journal activity I have done with my first graders for years. It allows the teacher the opportunity to guide young writers through the writing process with minimal effort.
It is a wonderful keepsake for students to remember their first week of school. (parents love to read throught the journals when they visit on Back To School Night.
The journal also helps students settle into their new class and routines.
This unit fully aligns with common core standards for first grade.
The unit includes both a color and b/w version of the journal:
* daily journal for students to complete - 1 page per day
- pages are presented in a story frame format with plenty of room for students to illustrate
*1 blank template to allow for differentiation
* About the Author page
* suggestion for presentation as a keepsake
*kid friendly graphics and cover page
*vocabulary cards to post to help students become independent writers. These are great for your writing center. Students can use the vocabulary cards throughout the school year.
I hope that you find it helpful!
